What is Digital Citizenship?
Digital Citizenship are guidelines used to better the relationship between the digital technology community (Ribble, 2011). These guidelines addresses the rights, as well as the responsibilities of all users within this online community to create an environment that allows for it to be used by everyone without fear.
Why is Digital Citizenship Important for our students?Advances in technology are constantly growing. Students are exposed to technology constantly throughout the day, yet are not receiving proper instruction on the use, as they are often the teachers for the older generations. Many parents are not aware of what the technology is capable of, or even aware of how their children are using the technology.
It is important for us as teachers to address the issues of technology as we are introducing it to the students in the classrooms beginning at young ages. With proper instruction and guidance, teachers and students both can embrace the technology within the classroom to expand learning, without feeling threatened of the issues that might arise with the use of technology. Within this website, we will discuss some of the issues that teachers must discuss when applying technology to their instruction. In each section, you will be provided breif explanations of Digital Access, Digital Etiquette, and Digital Rights and Responsibilities. It will also include resources for teachers so that they are aware of the issues, and be able to share information to their students. It will also provide resources to help teach some of these concepts to students as well. |
